Man injured in attempted murder case
Maui police are investigating a fight in Kihei that left a 44-year-old man in critical condition Saturday.
According to police, a Kihei patrol officer was flagged down by a man exiting Kalama Park and informed that a fight was in progress and that a badly beaten man needed assistance.
The officer found the unconscious victim alone near a pavilion by the skating rink and suffering from multiple injuries.
The victim was transported by paramedics to Maui Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Police are investigating the case as attempted murder.

Man who killed himself is ID’d by county police
Hawaii County police have identified the 48-year-old man who shot himself during an attempted murder and suicide as Clyde Criswell of Ocean View. Police said Criswell was also known as Cris.
Criswell’s victim remains hospitalized at the Queen’s Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. Wednesday at a property on Tiki Lane at the intersection of Luau Drive.
Police said the two men, who lived in separate dwellings on the property, got into an argument. They said the victim, a 37-year-old man, entered his own house, and then Criswell followed him and shot him. Criswell then stepped out of the house and fatally shot himself.
