Dinner to aid former inmates
Inmates from the Women’s Community Correctional Center will help prepare a benefit dinner Friday to assist formerly incarcerated women with transitioning into the community.
The Women Supporting Women event brings together Kapiolani Community College’s culinary program, HOPE Services Hawaii and Pua Foundation to present the dinner, to be held 5:30-9 p.m. at KCC’s Ohia dining room.
Seats are $50; tables of eight are available for $1,000 to $5,000.

Tour food sites in Chinatown
Learn about the culture and history of various Chinatown sites at the Slow Food Chinatown Tour, which runs Sunday and April 27.
Attendees will visit several speciality shops and historic sites, including temples, bakeries and noodle shops around Honolulu’s Chinatown.
There also will be samples of manapua, crack seed, lumpia and other local delicacies.

Imu to benefit school team
The Kailua High School Robotics Team plans to spend a weekend tending an imu and is offering space inside for trays of food.
Food goes into the underground oven April 18, emerging the next morning steamed full of luau flavor.
Cost is $25 per large aluminum tray. Food such as whole turkeys, roasts or pork butt (meat chunks should have three deep cuts in them), sweet potatoes, taro or luau leaves must be thawed, seasoned and well wrapped in foil. Drop in pan and wrap again in foil. Weight limit per tray is 25 pounds.
Reservations due by April 11. Make checks payable to Kailua High School and send to the school, 451 Ulumanu Drive, Kailua 96734. Write "Attention IMU" in lower left corner of the envelope. Include your name, telephone number and a self-addressed, stamped envelope so a confirmation ticket can be sent to you. To be included in an email list for future imu, provide email address as well.
