Hilo man dies in 2-car crash in Puna
An early morning collision on Keaau-Pahoa Road on Sunday left one man dead and another in police custody.
According to Big Island police, a Subaru multi-purpose vehicle operated by a 26-year-old Hilo man was traveling west on the highway when it attempted to overtake another car and collided with a Ford pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Subaru was killed.
The driver of the truck, identified as a 52-year-old Keaau man, suffered minor injuries and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
Police are investigating whether speed or alcohol may be factors for the other driver, as well.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.

An autopsy will be performed on the driver of the Subaru to determine the exact cause of death.
Police closed the highway for about five hours while an investigation was performed.
