Globe Trotting
For the first time since its 1976 opening, the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum plans to overhaul its central exhibition showing the milestones of flight. The renovation was announced Thursday and will be carried out over two years with portions of the exhibit closing temporarily over time, said Museum Director J.R. Dailey. The Spirit of St. Louis will be one of the premier artifacts in the Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall.
Street View adds Angkor temples
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia » The spectacular temples of Cambodia’s Angkor civilization have been incorporated into Google’s Street View, a boost to the impoverished country’s tourism industry that also adds urgency to efforts to preserve the sprawling historic site.
The Internet giant said in a statement Thursday that Street View now includes more than 90,000 photographic panoramas of the sprawling temple complex, and links to Google’s online World Wonders Project, allowing viewers to zoom in to study carvings and other artistic and archaeological details.
Built between the ninth and 14th centuries, Angkor is a symbol of Cambodian national pride and also the country’s biggest tourist attraction, receiving about 2 million visitors a year.
Exhibit covers light in art, science
DALLAS » A new exhibit in Dallas showcases 150 rare Islamic works of art and scientific objects that explore the use and meaning of light.

The exhibit titled "Nur: Light in Art and Science from the Islamic World" opened over the weekend at the Dallas Museum of Art. "Nur" is the Arabic word for light.
The Dallas Museum of Art will be the only venue outside of Europe to host the exhibit, which premiered in Spain in October. It runs through June 29.
The works on display come from public and private collections around the world. Objects on display include illuminated manuscripts, objects made from precious stones, and scientific tools such as sundials and astrolabes.
State honors the breakfast burrito
SANTA FE, N.M. » The New Mexico Tourism Department is looking for the state’s best breakfast burritos.
The department opened nominations Monday for limited spots on what it has dubbed the New Mexico True Breakfast Burrito Byway.
According to tourism officials, the breakfast burrito was developed by a Santa Fe restaurant. It has also become a staple of Albuquerque’s International Balloon Fiesta, where a hand-held breakfast is a necessity.
The New Mexico True Breakfast Burrito Byway will identify the best of the burritos across New Mexico, based on nominations made by the public. Nominations are open to New Mexico-based restaurants with a business license, in good standing with local and state health departments, and with a bricks-and-mortar location.
The burritos must be a regular on the menu and include egg and a tortilla.
