The reservations lines are open at SLS Las Vegas, the north-Strip resort at the site of the old Sahara. The first night for booking is Aug. 25; rates are $109 weekdays and $139 weekends, with a two-night minimum.

SLS says that construction is "on time" and that all components of the $415 million, 1,600-room resort will open together. The grand opening will take place over Labor Day weekend, with the new SLS sporting a completely different look and vibe from the Sahara, which closed in May 2011.

Buffet takeout: Cravings buffet at the Mirage now offers a takeout option. For $16 (any meal) the buffet will give you a to-go box, which you can cram with as many goodies as you can fit into it — apparently a challenge that many patrons are rising to.

American Fish closing: Michael Mina’s American Fish will close at Aria in July. Another Mina restaurant, BARDOT Brasserie, will open in the space later this year.

Downtown Picnic: Picnic, the pool area at the Downtown Grand, has opened. It’s described as an "urban rooftop pool experience," and public access is "subject to availability."

Shuttered nightclubs: The Palms has closed Moon nightclub and The View. Following earlier closings of Rain nightclub and the Heraea sports lounge, the only nightspot currently open at the Palms is Ghostbar.

QUESTION: Are there any tricks to dealing with the nightmarish parking situation at the High Roller wheel?

ANSWER: In most cases the parking lot behind the wheel is the best play. However, last week the lot was used for a concert, and that spelled trouble, as even the neighboring parking garages at Flamingo and The Quad were full. The Linq valet is often the best option, or you can park across the street in the Caesars Palace garage or valet, and walk across the Strip to The Linq.
