Alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash in Waimanalo Saturday night that sent a man in his 20s to the hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The accident happened at about 9 p.m. near the intersection of Kakaina and Hihimanu streets.

Police said the victim, the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, was traveling on Kakaina Street when his vehicle left the road and hit the hillside.

The man sustained head injuries and paramedics took him to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

His condition was upgraded to serious a the hospital.
