Alcohol appears to be a factor in a crash in Waimanalo on Saturday night that sent a man in his 20s to the hospital in critical condition, officials said.
The accident happened at about 9 p.m. near the intersection of Kakaina and Hihimanu streets. Police said the driver was traveling on Kakaina Street when his vehicle left the road and hit the hillside.
The man sustained head injuries, and paramedics took him in critical condition to the hospital, police said.
His condition was upgraded to serious at the hospital.
Teen girl held in robbery of man on beach
Police arrested a 14-year-old girl Sunday after she allegedly tried to rob a man at knifepoint in Waikiki.
At about 1:30 a.m. the girl met a 27-year-old man in front of a Waikiki bar, and both walked to the beach, police said. While the two were kissing, the girl allegedly removed the man’s wallet and cellphone from his pocket.
When the man tried to get his property back, the girl brandished a black switchblade and pointed it toward the man, police said.
Police arrested the girl for investigation of first-degree robbery. The girl told police the man tried to sexually assault her, and an attempted sexual assault case was opened.
