Officers issued 127 traffic tickets in a distracted driver enforcement effort in Kalihi on Friday, Honolulu Police said Tuesday on their website, honolulupd.org.

Of the citations, 92 were for using mobile devices while driving, 8 were for seat belt violations, 6 for driving without a license , 4 for no insurance, 2 hazardous moving violations and one speeding ticket. Fourteen other tickets were for miscellaneous violations.

Police conducted the traffic enforcement action between 8 a.m. and noon at North Nimitz Highway and Waiakamilo Road.

A state law banning the use of handheld cell phones and other electronic devices while driving took effect last year.
