Hawaii’s Calip tied for second in tourney
Hawaii senior Nainoa Calip sits in a three-way tie for second place after firing an even-par 72 in Monday’s second round of the Big West Conference men’s golf championships in San Jacinto, Calif.
The Hilo native is tied with Cal State Fullerton’s Mark Anguiano and Cal State Northridge’s Kyler Sauer at 3-under 141 at The Country Club at Soboba Springs, five strokes back of tournament leader Matt Hansen of UC Davis (136).
UH junior Brian Lee shot a 2-over 74 and is at even-par 144, tied for ninth place, followed by Ryan Kuroiwa (156), David Saka (158) and Thomas Yamashita (159).
The Rainbow Warriors shot 301 as a team and dropped to sixth place in the nine-team tournament with a 591 total.
First-place Cal State Fullerton (578) leads UC Davis (580) by two strokes entering Tuesday’s final round.
