The University of Hawaii will begin its fifth annual football parking reverse auction May 5 amid a drop in available stalls at Aloha Stadium.
Overall, there will be 1,040 fewer spots available for UH games for the next two seasons, a 13 percent drop, due to rail construction, officials said.
The Kamehameha lot "will not be available for the next two seasons while building the rail station and staging equipment for construction in surrounding areas," UH said in a statement.
UH said negotiations with stadium officials have enabled it to secure a portion of the upper Halawa lot to help make up for the loss of the Kamehameha lot. Other ‘Ahahui Koa Anuenue reserved parking areas, the inner circle, Koa (bus) lots, will not be affected, UH said.
Under terms of the reverse auction, which began in 2010, football season-ticket holders with two or more tickets are eligible to participate in the auction. Prices in the inner circle area will start at $500, while the Koa (bus) and Upper Halawa lots open at $400. Prices will drop over succeeding days as long as stalls remain.
Instructions and log-in information are to be included in season-ticket renewal packets mailed out to season-ticket holders.
Last year UH said it realized nearly $400,000 from the auction and used the funds to support athletic scholarships.
