Kapolei scored six straight goals in the second half to beat Baldwin 8-2 in Wednesday’s opening round of the Stanford Carr/HHSAA girls water polo state championships at Kamehameha-Hawaii’s Naeole Aquatics Facility.
Tied 2-2 at halftime, Tiala Wendt, Brooke Bosque, Ilani Ibarra, and Mailani Wendt each scored a goal in the third quarter to help the Hurricanes pull away. Mailani Wendt had three goals for Kapolei, which plays top-seeded and six-time defending champion Punahou in Thursday’s quarters.
Roosevelt 7, Kealakehe 2
The Rough Riders scored four straight goals in the second half to pull away from the Waveriders. Joanna Wong had two goals for Roosevelt, which plays second-seeded Kahuku on Thursday. Naomi Tomlinson had both of Kealakehe’s goals.
‘Iolani 18, Kaiser 1
Melisa Kegans scored five goals and Elizabeth Barr had three to lead the Raiders over the Cougars. ‘Iolani plays third-seeded Lahainaluna on Thursday.
Mililani 8, Leilehua 4
Ashley Morea scored four goals to lead the Trojans over the Mules. Virginia Gustafson and Kayla Kashima each had two goals for Mililani, which plays Kamehameha-Hawaii on Thursday.
