Man killed, 3 injured in two-vehicle crash on Kauai
A 58-year-old man died Thursday in a two-vehicle crash in Kilauea, Kauai.
Police identified the victim as George Nielson of Washington state.
Shortly after 4 p.m., the driver of a Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle was traveling on Kuhio Highway near Pili Road. The driver attempted to make a turn from a southbound lane when it was struck by an oncoming Ford truck, according to a news release from the Kauai Police Department.
Nielson, one of four occupants in the SUV, died of injuries sustained in the crash. Police said a 62-year-old female passenger is in critical condition at Queen’s Medical Center. The driver, 61, and another female passenger, 56, suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were transported to Wilcox Hospital in stable condition.
Police said the driver of the truck, 55, did not sustain any injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
