Augie T takes reins of KQMQ midday show
Comedian Augie Tulba, better known as Augie T, returned to Honolulu radio Thursday as the midday host on KQMQ-FM 93.1 "Da Pa’ina."
He will host the 10 a.m.-to-3 p.m. show Mondays through Fridays, while former midday host "Phat Joe" has moved to the afternoon drive program from 3 to 7 p.m., according to a station announcement.
Comedian and recording artist Tulba also is well known for appearing on the weekly "Cheap Eats" restaurant feature aired during the three Hawaii News Now stations’ newscasts alongside weather anchor Guy Hagi.
Tulba for years had co-hosted morning radio shows on Oahu with veteran local radio personalities before getting his own show, which ended a few years ago.
He also hosted radio shows on the neighbor islands from his Oahu home using digital technology.
Milwaukee firm hires former state official
Ted Peck, former energy administrator for the state of Hawaii, has taken a job in Honolulu as the local sales manager for a Wisconsin-based energy company.
Peck will be in charge of market analysis, sales leadership and partner relationship management for ZBB Energy Corp., a publicly traded company based in Milwaukee, according to a news release from the company.
Peck was the state’s energy administrator from December 2007 through January 2011. Peck quit his state job to become president of Kuokoa, a startup company that had proposed acquiring HEI Industries Inc., the parent of HECO. Kuokoa dropped its bid to take over HEI in early 2013.
Peck left Kuokoa in December 2012 to become the general manager of the South Pacific region for Johnson Controls.
ZBB Energy Corp. "designs, develops, and manufactures advanced energy storage, power electronic systems, and engineered custom and semi-custom products targeted at the growing global need for distributed renewable energy, energy efficiency, power quality, and grid modernization," according to the news release.
Sponsors, vendors sought for Maui festival
Organizers of the inaugural Made in Maui County Festival are seeking sponsors and accepting applications from prospective vendors for the event Nov. 7 and 8.
Information and forms are available online at www.madeinmauicountyfestival.com.
The event, by the Maui Mayor’s Office of Economic Development and the Maui Chamber of Commerce, will showcase foods, fashion, craft items, art, produce and other items made or grown in Maui County. Similar to the annual Made in Hawaii Festival on Oahu, items sold at the Made in Maui County Festival must have been made on, or had at least 51 percent of their value added, on Maui, Molokai or Lanai.
The first day of the two-day festival will feature an invitation-only afternoon reception for wholesale buyers and distributors. The event will be open to the public Nov. 8 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
"This new festival will benefit our local economy in many ways," Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa said in a statement. "Besides giving local merchants the chance to showcase and sell their locally produced items, it stimulates our economy as a whole by bringing in interested shoppers to our island."
