Car alarm leads to arrest of alleged thief
A car alarm led to the arrest of an alleged thief early Sunday morning, Honolulu police said.
A 33-year-old man told police he was camping at Kahuku area beach park when heard his car alarm go off around 2:30 a.m. and went to check it out. He noticed another man running from the area and chased after him, according to police records.
Police said the man was able to catch and detain the suspect. A later look at his car revealed that the front passenger side window had been smashed, and items were been stolen from inside the car.
Arriving officers arrested the suspect, a 28-year-old man with no local address, on suspicion of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle around 3:30 a.m. near 56-335 Kamehameha Hwy., according to police records.
