Parts of the Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park on Kauai will be open for feral goat and pig hunting twice this summer, the state announced Friday.
Hunting areas will be between Ho’olulu Valley, Kalalau Valley and portions of Unit G, including Hono o Napali Natural Area Reserve.
Control permits are free but limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis from the Division of Forestry and Wildlife, 3060 ‘Eiwa St., Room 306, Lihue.
Those interested are required to show a valid Hawaii hunting license and sign a wildlife control permit agreement.
The hunting dates are June 21-22 and Aug. 16-17. Up to 60 participants will be allowed for each period. Selected hunters will be issued camping permits.
Archery hunting, allowed year-round, will be limited to Hanakapiai Valley during those dates.
The section of the Kalalau trail to Hanakapiai and Hanakapiai Falls will remain open to the public. However, the rest of the trail to Hanakoa and Kalalau will be posted "closed" to hikers.
Hunters with control permits will be allowed entry to the Na Pali Coast State Park on Friday before their assigned hunt to set up and scout the area. Participants must have their own transpor-tation.
The bag limit is six goats (three must be nannies) and four pigs per participant. Hunters can use either muzzle-loading or conventional rifles but may carry only one firearm.
