Seabury Hall earns top score in Math Bowl
The Seabury Hall math team earned the top overall score in Saturday’s State Math Bowl at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
Seabury Hall took top place in the A-Division (smaller schools) by correctly answering 13 of 14 problems for a score of 84 out of 90. It was the first time in the 36-year history of the event that a team from the small-school division earned the highest overall score. Maryknoll placed second in the division, followed by Saint Louis.
In the AA-Division (large schools), ‘Iolani (81 points) took first place, followed by Punahou School and McKinley High School.
Located in Makawao, Maui, Seabury Hall has an enrollment of just 441 students in grades six to 12.

Highway cleared after landslide
Personnel from the state Department of Transportation, Maui County Public Works and a private contractor cleared about 2,000 cubic yards of mud and debris that overran Hana Highway Friday.
The massive landslide occurred just before 6 p.m. near mile post 14.8 on the Kahului side of Keanae.
The highway was closed until midnight, when one lane was opened and traffic was contraflowed.
Workers continued clearing the highway through the evening while state engineers monitored the hillside to assess its stability.
The highway was completely reopened at 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Bomb threat closes Walmart
The Lihue Walmart was evacuated Friday after a man called the store around 9:14 p.m. and said there was a bomb in the toy department, Kauai police said.
Customers were evacuated and police conducted a search but could not find the alleged device. The search was finished at 11:25 p.m., police said.
