North Shore lifeguards rescued a 57-year-old bodyboarder who was knocked unconscious in high surf Saturday near the Ke Iki break.

According to an Emergency Medical Services report, the man hit his head on the ocean floor. Lifeguards spotted him face down in the water and brought him back to shore, where they administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

The man, a resident of Oahu, was transported to a local trauma center in serious condition.
