A radar image taken Monday morning shows windward and mauka showers over Oahu and widespread rain over Maui County.

The return of the tradewinds and lingering moisture from a weather system moving over the state brought rain to Oahu and Maui County Monday morning.

Forecasters expected a mix of sun and showers through the middle of the week as the northeast tradewinds blow rain clouds over windward and mauka sections. Some of the rain may move over the mountains to leeward areas.

Hawaii island may get some of the showers later Monday.

The 10- to 20-mph tradewinds are expected to shift to easterlies later in the week, which should also bring fewer showers.

Another weather system, approaching from the northwest, may cut off the tradewinds on Monday, bringing a return of light, southerly winds and last week’s muggy, voggy Kona weather.
