San Diego-area university evacuated amid wildfires
CARLSBAD, Calif. » The campus of California State, University San Marcos is being evacuated as one of several wildfires scorching northern San Diego County burns on a hillside behind the school.
The school announced the full evacuation of the university on Wednesday. The school of nearly 10,000 students about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego is having final exams this week with graduation ceremonies this weekend.
Some surrounding homes are also under evacuation orders.
Meanwhile yet another fire has broken out 20 miles to the north of the university near Fallbrook, forcing the shutdown of a stretch of Interstate 15. County Sheriff Bill Gore says evacuation notices have been sent to 300 homes in that area.
