Suspect arrested in attempted murder case in Waikiki
Honolulu police opened an attempted murder investigation Wednesday after a 73-year-old woman was struck near Kapiolani Park by a car driven by a woman who fled the scene on foot.
The older woman was in serious condition with a head injury following the 11:40 a.m. incident at 2696 Kalakaua Ave., according to an Emergency Medical Services Division report.
About 7:15 p.m., police arrested a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
When firefighters arrived at 11:44 a.m., they found the woman on the ground with a cut to her head and the suspect’s car with damage to the backend, Honolulu fire spokesman David Jenkins said. A bystander apparently had used a crowbar to alert the driver so that she wouldn’t hit the woman a second time, he said.
The woman had a cut to the back of her head and bruises on the rest of the body, Jenkins said.
