PHILADELPHIA >> A jetliner that flew through a hailstorm on its descent into Philadelphia has landed with a cracked windshield.

US Airways says only one layer of the multilayered windshield was cracked and Flight 768 en route from Orlando, Florida, landed safely. No one was injured.

An airline spokeswoman says the windshield damage was possibly caused by the hail but an investigation is incomplete. The Airbus 320 is out of service while it is also inspected for other possible hail damage.

The National Weather Service says trained spotters reported up to tennis ball-size hail in an area of eastern Pennsylvania on Thursday afternoon.

The hail broke out windows in buildings, damaged siding and shattered car windshields.
