Man indicted in stabbing
A Kau man was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on an attempted-murder charge in connection with a stabbing near Kealoha Beach Park in Hilo on May 10.
Paul Gibson, 46, of Ocean View was arrested Thursday morning by Hawaii island police at Hilo District Court, where Gibson was appearing for a preliminary hearing after he was freed on $374,000 bail in the case.
The hearing was canceled following the grand jury indictment on charges of attempted second-degree murder, third-degree assault, two counts of terroristic threatening, five firearm offenses and resisting an order to stop.
Bail was increased to $700,000, and Gibson was being held until his arraignment, which is scheduled for Friday.
In the stabbing, a 41-year-old Hilo man sustained multiple stab wounds to the back during an altercation.
Ferry terminal’s upgrade is pau
WAILUKU » State officials say a $9.1 million ferry terminal improvement project at Molokai’s Kaunakakai Harbor has been completed.
The Maui News says the project expanded the passenger waiting area, upgraded restrooms and increased parking space. The project also included a new fire protection system and upgraded sewage system.
Landfill to close early Saturday
The Solid Waste Division of the Maui Department of Environmental Management announced that due to a staffing shortage, the Molokai Landfill will close at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
