Visitation canceled again at OCCC

STAR-ADVERTISER
Inmate visits at Oahu Community Correctional Center have been suspended for about a month because of a guard shortage and the need to rein in overtime

Visitation at Oahu Community Correctional Center has been cancelled for a second day due to staffing shortages.

The Department of Public Safety also canceled visits to prisoners at OCCC on Saturday.

Cancellations of visiting have been a frequent occurrence over the last several months as the department struggles with staffing shortages due to sick leave and other issues.

The department started putting out visitation cancellation notices through social media in an effort to get the word out faster to people who are planning to come to the facility to visit a loved one.

OCCC also opened a “hotline” for inmate visitation cancellation notices at 832-1623.
