A 103,000-square-foot Macy’s store will anchor a regional shopping mall planned for Kapolei, according to a statement from DeBartolo Development LLC, the developer of the project.
Construction of the 1.4 million-square-foot Ka Makana Alii mall is scheduled to begin later this year. The development will include more than 100 shopping, dining and entertainment-related tenants, as well as two hotels and office space.
"Demand for leasing space at Ka Makana Alii has been overwhelming with over 80 percent of space either in lease or active negotiations," said Edward Kobel, president and chief operating officer of DeBartolo Development, in a statement. "We are confident that the addition of Macy’s will only heighten interest from local and national retailers."
In January former San Francisco 49ers star receiver Jerry Rice, who was in town for the NFL Pro Bowl, attended a blessing ceremony for the $500 million mall project. Florida-based DeBartolo Development was founded by former 49ers owner Edward J. DeBartolo Jr.
