Chun falls short at world trials
Freestyle wrestler Clarissa Chun won her first two matches in the 48-kilogram weight class Saturday, but fell one match short of competing for the championship at the U.S. Senior World Team Trials in Madison, Wis.
Alyssa Lampe defeated Victoria Anthony in a best-of-three final and will represent the U.S. at the Senior World Championships, Sept. 8-14 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Anthony had beaten Chun, the Roosevelt High product and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, by fall in the challenge final. Chun beat Allene Somera of Kailua in the first round 11-0 and Erin Golston 10-0 in her second match.
Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano, Grossman at QB Club
Marilyn Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano and Dakota Grossman will speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at the Maple Garden restaurant Monday.
Moniz-Kaho‘ohanohano is the senior woman administrator and associate athletics director at the University of Hawaii. She monitors gender equity and NCAA compliance at the university and will be honored at the YWCA’s 37th annual Leader Luncheon on Tuesday.
Grossman is a four-time girls cross country state champion from Seabury Hall and was recently selected as one of 12 high school athletes for the 2014 Hall of Honor.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $15 per person.
UH baseball camp begins Friday
Registration is ongoing for the University of Hawaii’s three-day baseball camp, June 6-8 at Les Murakami Stadium.
The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will cover all aspects of the game, including hitting, pitching and defense.
The cost for all three days is $250 and participants must check in from 8 to 9 a.m. on Friday to participate.
