Report of gunman causes lockdown
Police locked down offices at Campbell Square in Kapolei from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a man armed with a gun in one of the buildings.
Office workers said they were nervous and scared after seeing police officers running through the area armed with rifles and entering offices to search for the gunman. Occupants were told to stay inside while the search was conducted at 1001 Kamokila Blvd., a large city block, across the street from the Kapolei police station.
A loan officer at a mortgage company in the Kapolei Building said he called police after he spotted a man pacing the third-floor hallway and armed with a silver and black handgun. He warned others in his office not to go out because the man appeared agitated. The man was described as in his 40s with shoulder-length, dirty-blond hair, 5 feet 8 inches tall, clean-shaven, wearing khaki long pants and a plaid shirt.
After officers could not find the alleged gunman, they lifted the lockdown at 3 p.m. They discontinued their search at about 4 p.m.
Some in the buildings, including a learning center director, said he was concerned for the safety of his young students because the gunman had not been caught, and closed the center for the rest of the day.
