Fire extinguished at Sand Island sewage treatment plant
City officials are trying to determine the cause of an early morning fire Tuesday that damaged a methane gas unit at the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Four fire companies responded to the 2:03 a.m. alarm at 1350 Sand Island Parkway and brought the fire under control 40 minutes later.
No injuries were reported.
The extent of the damage is being assessed by plant officials.
The fire broke out while workers cleaned the methane gas unit, the fire department reported.
