Chefs compete at Hyatt event
Ever wanted to be a judge in a cooking contest? You may have your chance Friday at Hyatt’s Good Taste Series event.
One audience member will be chosen to join a panel of four judges to taste dishes prepared by seven chefs from various Hyatt properties: Jeff Coil (Hyatt Regency Bellevue), Rebecca House (Hyatt Regency Calgary), Gary Johnson (Andaz Maui and Wailea Resort), Jon Matsubara (Hyatt Regency Waikiki), Reno Rodriguez (Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa), Audrey Spence (Grand Hyatt Seattle and Hyatt at Olive 8) and Gevin Utrillo (Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa).
Every audience member will be able to cast a vote for a drink made by up-and-coming bartenders during the Masters of Mix contest.
The event is a benefit for the Kapiolani Community College Culinary Institute.
Doors open at 5 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa. The judge selection takes place at 5:30 p.m., and the contests begin at 6 p.m.

Chinatown tour focuses on food
Slow Food Oahu is back with its Chinatown Tour, which teaches participants about seafood and produce; visits bakeries and noodle factories; and samples local foods such as manapua, crack seed and lumpia.
The tour runs 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Cost is $40; space is limited. Register by Friday at hsalinks.com/slowtourchinatown.
