Work on the H-1 freeway rehabilitation project will close some but not all Koko Head-bound lanes overnight from near the Likelike Highway to Ward Avenue, state transportation officials said Friday.

The partial closure will take place midnight Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, and from midnight Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday and will also involve closing on- and offramps to the freeway, according to a state Department of Transportation news release.

The state had planned to close all Koko Head lanes, but the full closure was reduced to a partial closure due to “significant progress made overnight,” the news release said.

The Liliha Street and Pali Highway freeway onramps will be closed during the work period, along with the Pali Highway, Punchbowl Street and Kinau Street offramps.

DOT officials had hoped to wrap up work on this phase of the project on Thursday the several weeks of full overnight closures that forced drivers to seek alternate routes. However, rainy weather delayed some of the work, which they’ve opted to complete overnight this weekend.
