Walk-ups boost judoka count

More than 300 walk-ups raised the total participant count for this weekend’s judo competitions at the Neal Blaisdell Center past 1,100.

The Fifth Annual Grassroots Judo National Championships — featuring junior, youth, team and kata categories — will be held Friday and Saturday, and the inaugural United States Judo Federation National Championships for senior and masters categories is on Sunday.

All judoka were weighed in on Thursday. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
