The 52nd annual Hawaii State Farm Fair offers families a fun-filled day at Kualoa Ranch on July 12 and 13, offering educational exhibits, kiddie rides and a country market and plant sale.
The farm fair is held by the Hawaii Farm Bureau in partnership with 4-H to educate young people about the various aspects of agriculture.
A new attraction, called "Keiki Farm Hands," will offer kids the opportunity to participate in a seedling identification game, milk a replica of a life-size cow, see a chick hatchery and live honeybee display, and play with kid-sized farming tools.
The first 500 kids to go through Keiki Farm Hands will receive a free farm animal visor.
There will also be horse rides, Xtreme Fun keiki rides and food and product displays in the "Buy Local, It Matters" pavilion sponsored by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture.
Also new this year is a pie contest sponsored by Napoleon’s Bakery. Home bakers are invited to use as many local ingredients as possible to contend for a blue ribbon, cash prize and the title of best local pie.
The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 12 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 13. Admission is $5, free for children and students of all ages. Parking is also free.
Kualoa Ranch is at 49-560 Kamehameha Highway. Call 848-2074 or visit www.hawaiistatefarmfair.org.

Super Bowl champs help with coaching at Punahou clinic
To be the best, you must learn from the best. If that adage is true, the annual Punahou Football Clinic presents a perfect opportunity for young athletes.
The clinic, run by football coaches and players from the defending state champion Buffanblu, is set for July 18 and 19 at Punahou School’s Alexander Field and is open to boys and girls in grades 2 to 8.
In addition to the Punahou staff, former University of Hawaii player Kenny Patton of Patton Sports Performance will be on hand to provide coaching, and guest speakers include former NFL players Ma‘ake and Chris Kemoeatu.
Both Kemoeatu brothers are Super Bowl winners — Chris was part of two championship teams with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Ma‘ake helped the Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers in the big game in 2013.
Clinic activities include training for all positions through football techniques, combine drills, speed and agility with Patton, and one-on-one and seven-on-seven drills.
The clinic starts July 18 with a combined session from 3 to 6 p.m. On July 19 the clinic for participants in grades 2 through 5 will be from 9 a.m. to noon, with the session for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders to follow from 1 to 4 p.m.
Children should bring proper attire and supplies (T-shirt, shorts, tennis shoes, cleats, sunscreen and water jug). Snacks and Punahou football attire will be sold.
Registration fee is $100 (includes a T-shirt and bag) and increases to $125 at the door (based on availability, cash only). The fee includes a dinner-to-go July 18 and entry into a drawing for a free training session with Patton valued at $120.
To register, email Karen Satterwhite, footballclinic@punahou.edu.
