Daniel Dae Kim, resuming work here this month on CBS’ "Hawaii Five-0," has spent the summer filming Summit’s "The Divergent Series: Insurgent," the first sequel to the "Divergent" film franchise starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James.
Kim, who is Chin Ho Kelly on the island procedural, will play a character named Jack Kang.
The "Divergent" company welcomes Jonny Weston, Suki Waterhouse and Oscar-winning Octavia Spencer, according to trade magazine reports. Those reprising their roles include Ansel Elgort, Woodley’s co-star in "The Fault in Our Stars," Jai Courtney and Miles Teller. Robert Schwentkeis directing the project, expected to be released March 20.Thethird installment of the book will be a two-film release March 18, 2016, and March 24,2017. …
Kim has endorsed Gov. Neil Abercrombie for re-election, stating the gov "has been a longtime supporter of the arts" including "Five-0’s" role in fostering tourism. …
By the way, CBSand Paramount Home Media Distribution will release the "Hawaii Five-0 — Season Four" DVD Sept. 16. …
THE LOCAL ANGLE:When Lisa Loeb performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday as part of the Honolulu Museum of Art’s summer concert series, Na Hoku Hanohano-winning producer Brandon Apeles hand-picked kid star Aidan James as Loeb’s opening act. James, along with his new band Rising Sons, just finished shooting a music video for his original tune, "One of the Ones," directed by "Hawaii Five-0’s" Michael Martinez, and he just wound up a gig at the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival on Maui. Watch for him and his band at the Hard Rock Cafe in Waikiki Sunday. …
FILM FOLKS: Christopher Bright’s family invited friends, ohana and supporters for a sneak peek of his short film, "Tsuru," about World War II-era internment camps, June 29 at Paliku Theatre at Windward Community College. The film title, referring to the traditional Japanese good-luck and long-life crane, is a recurring gesture of gratitude for the story’s key characters, but also is pegged to Christopher’s middle name, Tsuruo, handed down to him from his grandfather. …

HONOREES: When the United Chinese Society of Hawaii honored its 2014 Model Father and Mother of the Year — that would be Stanford Yuen and Debbie Lim — recently at the Empress Restaurant, Chinese food was served. Yuen and his wife, Lynette, have three daughters, Lim and her husband, Patrick, have three sons, and both have had successful business and community service profiles. And since the Lims own four McDonald’s franchises on the Big Island, all attendees received coupons for Big Macs and latte.…
