After a performance at Capitol Hill Ocean Week and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History last month, "Honu by the Sea" returns to Honolulu for performances Thursday and July 17 and 24 at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel’s Monarch Room, where the production debuted in 2012.
Showtimes for the hourlong production, geared toward all ages, are 11:30 a.m., with an additional 7 p.m. show July 24.
"Honu by the Sea" is a musical by Johnson Enos that tells the story of Kainoa, a Waikiki beachboy who finds a magical sea star that grants his wish to live under the sea. During this adventure he learns the value of protecting the ocean and sea life.
The cast includes Broadway actress Deedee Magno Hall and local actors Shawna Masuda, Meilan Akaka, Lia Kreig, Rachel Wong, Nickey Enos, Miguel Cadoy III, Ki Quilloy, Matt Mazzella, Bryce William Irvine and Kaipo Leopoldino.
Costumes for the show were designed by Cynthia Nordstrom, whose credits include the new Marvel Universe live, Universal Studios Japan and Disney, and created by John Kristiansen, New York Inc.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Enos is a music producer, composer and singer. His credits include work with Disney’s Aulani resort, on Disney’s "Lilo and Stich II" soundtrack and with Hawaii singer Raiatea Helm and such national talent as Bette Midler and Kristen Chenoweth.
