Collision on H-3 onramp kills motorcyclist
A 26-year-old man died and a 22-year-old man was injured after two motorcycles collided on the onramp of the H-3 freeway from Likelike Highway in Kaneohe Saturday morning.
At about 3:10 a.m., police said the 26-year-old man, riding a 2014 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle, and a 22-year-old man, operating a 2007 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle in a pack, hit each other. Witnesses observed the motorcycles collide, causing both to slide against the pavement and a metal guardrail, police said.
The 26-year-old man suffered major head and body injuries and died at the scene, police said. Paramedics took the 22-year-old man to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition. His condition improved to stable.
Both men were wearing helmets.
Police said excessive speed is a possible factor.
The motorcyclist’s death is the 35th traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 35 traffic fatalities at the same time last year.
