Speed, alcohol cited in fatal Haleiwa crash
Police said excessive speed and alcohol may be factors in a motorcycle crash that killed a 33-year-old California man near the Weed Circle junction in Haleiwa early Saturday morning.
The man lost control of his 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle while turning onto Kamehameha Highway from the Weed Circle junction at about 12:40 a.m., police said.
The motorcycle hit a guard rail, and the man was ejected over the rail into some bushes. He sustained major head and body injuries and died at the scene.
Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
Kamehameha Highway was closed while Traffic Division officers investigated the crash scene. The road reopened by about 3:30 a.m.
Police said the man’s death is the 37th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 38 at the same time last year.
