Victorino back on Red Sox disabled list
The Red Sox placed Maui’s Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Thursday, because of a lower back strain.
Victorino underwent an MRI on his sore lower back Friday, according to a story on the Red Sox’s MLB.com website.
“I think, until we get the information back, it’s probably too early to tell,” Farrell told MLB.com of a timetable for Victorino’s return. “The one thing we do have right now is we have some time on our side, so whatever is recommended for Vic to get back to full strength, if we use the remaining months in this calendar year to our advantage, we’ll see if that makes sense.”
It’s Victorino’s third trip to the DL this year. He’s missed 71 games this season because of a right hamstring strain.
Yoenis Cespedes, who came to the Red Sox in a trade with the Oakland A’s, will play right field until Victorino returns.
