‘Iolani football coach Wendell Look announced Thursday that the 51st Father Bray Classic game between ‘Iolani and Kamehameha-Maui scheduled for Saturday is canceled.

All 20 other season-opening Hawaii high school football games this weekend had been previously called off due to approaching hurricanes Iselle and Julio.

As late as Thursday at noon, Look was looking for a possible replacement for Kalani in the first game of the Father Bray Classic. The Falcons of the OIA were scheduled to play the ILH’s Pac-Five in the 4 p.m. game at Aloha Stadium on Saturday, but opted out of that game Thursday morning, when the OIA canceled all of its competition.

Hawaii superintendent of schools Kathryn Matayoshi announced at a news conference Thursday that all public schools on Oahu would be closed Friday. With that decision, all games involving OIA teams were officially called off. A day earlier, 11 of the 21 scheduled games had already been wiped off the slate statewide.

Two games — Damien at Kauai, and Konawaena vs. St. Francis at the Campbell High field — may be made up Aug. 23.
