Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the theaters … "Sharknado 2!"
For one night only, theaters nationwide will screen "Sharknado 2: The Second One," the television movie sequel to last year’s Syfy so-bad-it’s-good hit that took over social media. All screenings will be at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The "Sharknado" franchise has attracted fans, like sharks to chum, who can’t get enough of the campy films that are full of bad acting, terrible special effects and ridiculous scenarios, the most preposterous of which is the sharknado itself — a tornado that has sucked up sharks that then fly out and chomp on the swarms of panicked humans below.
In the first movie, the sharknado destroyed Los Angeles. In "Sharknado 2," the sharks are taking bites out of the Big Apple as multiple sharknados converge on Manhattan. Ian Ziering, of "Beverly Hills 90210" fame, is back as Finn, who once again has to save a city from these storms. Also returning is Tara Reid as his ex-wife, April.
The cast also includes Vivica A. Fox and Mark McGrath, as well as a ton of cameos: Kelly Osbourne, Judd Hirsch, Downtown Julie Brown, Perez Hilton, Kurt Angle and Jared from Subway, just to name a few.
"Sharknado 2" premiered July 30 and drew nearly 4 million viewers, making it the most-watched Syfy original movie ever.
In Hawaii, Regal Cinemas will be showing the film at Dole Cannery, Prince Kuhio in Hilo, Makalapua in Kailua-Kona and Maui Mall in Kahului. Tickets are $12.50.
