Woman sought in murder attempt
Honolulu police are looking for a 24-year-old woman who allegedly tried to run down another woman in Makiki on Friday.
An argument between the two women in a Makiki parking lot escalated and the suspect allegedly drove toward the 40-year-old woman, police said Monday. The victim suffered no major injuries in the 3:55 p.m. incident. The suspect fled.
Police have classified the case as second-degree attempted murder.
HPD officer dies after gun accident
The family of a 39-year-old Honolulu police officer said his death was due to the accidental discharge of a handgun at his Wilhelmina Rise home Saturday evening.
Jens Magelssen was showing his handgun to a friend during a barbecue at his home when it accidentally went off, his uncle Mark Magelssen said.
"He’s always had a very gentle, kind and loving heart," Mark Magelssen said, adding he was a devoted father.
Jens Magelssen was with a group of friends at his Sierra Drive home, and had no intention of hurting himself or anyone else, his uncle said.
He was kept on life support until Monday. An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
Magelssen, originally from Tacoma, Wash., moved to Hawaii to be closer to his son, Luke, 8.
His LinkedIn page shows he joined the Honolulu Police Department in 2008. He served as a corrections officer with Washington state from 2004 to 2008 and was a mental health counselor with the Monroe Correctional Complex, northeast of Bellevue, for nearly a year.
Man held after alleged slashing
A 28-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly slashed another man during a fight in Waimanalo Sunday night.
Police said the suspect attacked the 25-year-old victim just before 10 p.m. at the Kauhale Ohana public housing project on Kalanianaole Highway. The victim was treated at the scene. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Boy is stable after 3-story fall in Aiea
A 5-year-old boy was reported in stable condition Monday after falling three stories from an Aiea building, according to Emergency Medical Services.
The boy was hurt at about 6:40 p.m. Monday on Lanani Street and transported to a hospital, EMS said.
