Collision injures driver, sets truck aflame
A motor vehicle collision on Farrington Highway on Monday afternoon resulted in an injured driver, a burning truck spewing thick smoke and traffic headaches for motorists in the Kapolei area.
Police traffic logs recorded a motor vehicle collision near the Ko Olina Resort at 2:28 p.m., and photos posted on social media showed a white truck engulfed in flames blocking both westbound lanes of the highway.
According to Emergency Medical Services, the 55-year-old male driver of the truck sustained cuts and abrasions and was transported in serious condition to a local trauma center.
Skateboarder killed after accident is ID’d
A 21-year-old man who died Saturday after he was injured in a skateboarding accident on Hawaii island earlier this month has been identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy will be performed on Sean Bowling of Cookeville, Tenn., the medical examiner said.
Bowling was flown to a Honolulu hospital following the accident on Sept. 1, according to Hawaii County police.
Report on cause of boy’s death is delayed
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has deferred the cause of death for a 17-year-old Honolulu boy who died at Kapena Falls on Labor Day.
The information is expected to be available within about 10 weeks, according to the office.
Leighton Mow, a Moanalua High School senior, was on an outing with a group of friends at the falls. Honolulu Fire Department divers found his body at the bottom of the pond.
