The Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation will temporarily close Port Allen Small Boat Harbor’s trailer parking area and boat launch ramp for paving work.
The closure will take place from 5 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Friday. The comfort station will also be closed during that period. Portable toilets will be available. Those with boats will be allowed access to their vessels.
The work is part of a new $791,770 floating dock and vessel sewage pumpout project for the Kauai harbor. Contractors of American Marine Corp. will install a new sewage pumpout system and a 60-foot-long aluminum floating deck.
The paving work is necessary to patch up trench work and repair deteriorated asphalt, the land agency said in a news release.
The project is slated to be completed in October. Officials said the vessel sewage pumpout facility will provide Kauai with a second site for vessel owners to properly dispose of wastewater instead of dumping it in the ocean. The other facility is at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor.
A new $440,000 comfort station is also nearing completion at Port Allen. Kauai Builders Ltd. is replacing the existing restroom.
