Hawaii Hilo men’s golf team fifth
Kyeton Littel and Dalen Yamauchi tied for 14th place to lead the UH Hilo men’s golf team to a fifth-place finish Saturday at the St. Martin’s Invitational at the Olympia (Wash.) Golf and Country Club.
Littel and Yamauchi both finished at 2-over-par 215, with Littel turning in rounds of 75-69-71 while Yamauchi recorded 74-69-72.
Western Washington won the team title with an 838 followed by Simon Fraser (844), British Columbia (850), Dixie State (866) and UH-Hilo (867).
HPU runners dominate in Laie
Leandro Santillan and Fiona McKenna set course records and the Hawaii Pacific men’s and women’s cross-country teams both placed first Saturday at the BYU-Hawaii Invitational in Laie.
Santillan won the men’s 8k race in 25 minutes, 46 seconds, his third consecutive victory at the BYU-Hawaii meet. Fermin Villagran finished second.
McKenna clocked in at 18:09 and led a 1-2-3 finish for the Sharks in the women’s 5k race. Jaimie Neal’s time was 18:52 and Marissa Kunsch finished in 19:10.
Hawaii Hilo’s women finished fourth, paced by Anna Baker-Mikkelsen, who placed eighth with a time of 19:50.
Chaminade soccer teams fall on road
The Chaminade men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against Cal State East Bay at Hayward, Calif.
Down a goal midway through the first half, Chaminade (1-3) tied the match in the 28th minute when Lukas Pousset scored his first goal of the season. But CSUEB regained the lead in the 48th minute and held on for the win.
After a scoreless first half in the women’s match, Cal State East Bay erupted for three goals in the last 45 minutes and shut down Chaminade the rest of the way for a 3-0 win. The Silverswords are 0-3.
Vulcans sweep in PacWest match
The Hawaii Hilo women’s volleyball team showed no hospitality at home against Chaminade on Saturday, sweeping the Silverswords 25-17, 25-20, 25-23.
Marley Strand-Nicolaisen had 15 kills for the Vulcans, who are 2-0 in PacWest Conference play and 3-2 overall. Cassie Rushlow led Chaminade (7-5, 0-2) with 11 kills.
