Tabuyo doubles up in win
Jeremy Tabuyo enjoyed his first collegiate touchdown so much, he quickly did it again.
The Texas A&M receiver found the end zone for the first time on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of a 58-6 win over SMU on Saturday and added a 50-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter.
Tabuyo’s only two catches went for scores as he totaled 80 yards in his biggest collegiate game to date.
The 2013 Saint Louis alumnus did not redshirt with the Aggies last season and caught five balls for 21 yards in mostly mop-up duty, playing in six games as a freshman.
"I thought it was pretty big for me just to get my confidence up. Today was a big day for me," Tabuyo said after the game. "My routes were just short routes and I did what I did — just run after the catch."
Tabuyo has played in all four games for the undefeated sixth-ranked Aggies but had only one catch before his two touchdowns against the Mustangs.
Hawaii duo lead UOP to historic win
For the first time in 28 years, the University of the Pacific in California fielded a men’s soccer team this season.
It took eight games, but the Tigers finally earned their first victory on Sunday with two local players playing key roles.
Junior midfielder Kalei Gallarde, a 2012 Kapolei graduate, scored the game-winner in the 80th minute to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory over Cal Poly.
The Mustangs were 5-0-1 in their past six games but were upset despite outshooting the Tigers 21-12.
Pacific goalkeeper Josh Adachi, who graduated from ‘Iolani earlier this year, gave up a goal in the fifth minute but bounced back to make eight saves to keep Pacific in it.
The Tigers bounced back to tie it and Gallarde put it away with a bullet shot from the angle that went off the goalkeeper’s hands into the net for the Tigers’ first lead in any game this season.
