Garcia’s hat trick lifts HPU men’s soccer
Brais Garcia had three goals and Ryo Sugihara had three assists as Hawaii Pacific defeated Academy of Art 5-0 in a men’s PacWest Conference soccer match in San Francisco on Thursday.
Jorge Vela added a goal and an assist and Mario Garcia also scored for the Sharks (3-3-1, 1-0). The Urban Knights are 2-5, 0-1.

Hamasaki leads Chaminade women
Twyla Hamasaki scored twice to lead Chaminade (2-3 overall, 2-0 PacWest Conference) to a 2-0 victory over Dominican (0-7, 0-1) in a women’s soccer match at San Rafael, Calif., on Thursday.
Hamasaki scored in the 70th minute from 21 yards out on an assist from Keelani Duffey and in the 76th minute from 18 yards out.
» Louise Fillingham scored twice as Academy of Art (1-5-1, 1-0) defeated Hawaii Pacific (3-2-1, 0-1) 2-1 at San Francisco. Erika Ellis scored in the 90th minute for the Sharks.
» Hawaii Hilo (3-1-2, 0-0-1) got an own goal from Fresno Pacific (0-5-1, 0-0-1) late in the first half in a match at Fresno, Calif., that went into overtime and ended in a 1-1 tie.
Moore advances to quarterfinals
Honolulu’s Carissa Moore outlasted Lakey Peterson, 12.07 to 11.60, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Roxy Pro France on Thursday.
Also advancing were Courtney Conlogue, Johanne Defay and Malia Manuel, also of Hawaii.
