A 32-year-old surfer was found at noon Thursday floating face down in waters off Waikiki Beach.
Emergency Medical Services said the man had been surfing when he was found 75 yards offshore near the Duke Kahanamoku statue.
The man’s surfboard leash was detached from his ankle, EMS reported.
The surfer’s friend brought him close to shore and lifeguards took over, brought him to shore and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, EMS said.
When paramedics arrived, they took over treatment and transported the man in critical condition to the hospital.
