Visitor pulled from ocean dies
A 33-year-old Canadian visitor, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition Thursday after being found face down off Kuhio Beach near the Duke Kahanamoku statue, has died.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Mark Gaborro of Alberta, Canada. Police classified the case as an unattended death pending the outcome of an autopsy.
Emergency Medical Services said Gaborro had been surfing at Waikiki Beach Thursday when he was found 75 yards off shore around noon. Gaborro’s surfboard leash was detached from his ankle, EMS reported.
Suspect held in park stabbing
Homicide detectives have initiated an attempted murder investigation after an early morning stabbing at Waianae District Park.
Police have at least one suspect in custody following the incident that occurred at 5:45 a.m. Friday.
Emergency Medical Services said a 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital in serious condition with stab wounds.
Marco Polo fire quickly doused
Fire broke out on the 35th floor of the Marco Polo apartment building Friday after a pressure washer overheated and exploded while workers were cleaning a trash chute near a stairwell, Honolulu fire spokesman Capt. David Jenkins said.
Thirty-five firefighters responded to the blaze at 2333 Kapiolani Blvd., which was reported about 11:35 a.m., and had the fire under control by 11:57 a.m. The fire was contained to the hallway area.
A worker was reported injured. Emergency Medical Services evaluated the worker, who refused treatment.
Kapiolani Boulevard lanes were closed because of the fire but were reopened in the early afternoon.
Sketch shows suspect in Maui kidnap attempt
Maui police have released a sketch of the man suspected of trying to kidnap a 10-year-old boy in Pukalani on Sept. 26.
The suspect is described as being in his 30s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 240 pounds with medium brown skin, and bald except for patches of black hair. He is further described as "local," with a diamond-shaped tribal tattoo running down the outside of his right arm.
The suspect was last seen driving away in a faded Honda Civic with dark purple tint and a white "Piranha" skeleton sticker on the right rear bumper.
Big Isle man sought for theft, other crimes
Hawaii County police are looking for a 26-year-old Kamuela man who is wanted on warrants related to theft and numerous other crimes.
Jake Drummondo is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds with brown eyes and short black hair.
He is wanted for theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, unauthorized possession of confidential information, forgery, driving under the influence of an intoxicant, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
