2 people injured in Wahiawa dog attack
A dog attack in Wahiawa sent two people to the hospital Thursday night.
An ambulance crew took a 56-year-old woman in serious condition and a 56-year-old man in stable condition to a trauma center with multiple dog bites, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. The attack happened near Hoihoi Avenue at about 9:20 p.m., EMS said.
9,500 gallons of waste spill at Marine base
About 9,500 gallons of untreated wastewater were dumped into the Mokapu Central Drainage Channel at Marine Corps Base Hawaii but did not reach ocean waters.
KHON-TV reported the spill occurred between 6 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The untreated wastewater entered the channel near Lawrence Road and Pancoast Place.
The spill was blamed on a malfunctioning sewage lift station pump. Officials say the spill was contained on the base.
Grant funds Korean language classes at UH
A grant is allowing the University of Hawaii at Manoa to offer Korean language lessons to the public. The classes will train adults and high school students in elementary and intermediate levels of Korean language and culture.
Noncredit classes will be taught on the Manoa campus for three hours per week. Lesson topics range from Korean food to Korean television dramas.
The grant money comes from the King Sejong Institute Foundation, a South Korean government entity that promotes Korean language and culture around the world.
