Man held in injury to 3-year-old boy
A 34-year-old Nanakuli man was in police custody after he allegedly injured his 3-year-old nephew during an argument with his sister.
Police said the man argued with his 31-year-old sister Saturday afternoon.
During the argument he allegedly threw a plate at his sister, hitting her right thigh, police said. When the man left the house, he hit a louvered glass window, and pieces of glass hit the boy’s head, causing a small cut, police said.
Officers located the man near Farrington Highway on Sunday morning and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage and abuse.
Part of artificial turf is stolen from park
Kauai police are looking for the person or persons responsible for damaging synthetic turf at Puhi Park playground last week.
According the Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation, a large portion of turf was cut away and hauled off.
Similar vandalism occurred in June at Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa.
The county spent approximately $12,000 to resurface the parks in the recent years. The vandalism will cost an estimated $2,600 to repair.
"There are replacement costs and manpower requirements, all of which are borne by the taxpayer," said Parks and Recreation Director Lenny Rapozo.
"In addition, the time spent tending to these projects means time taken away from another parks project."
Anyone with information regarding vandalism at county parks is urged to call Kauai police dispatch, 241-1711, or CrimeStoppers, 241-1887.
