Fashion event to aid students
Hui Makaala is hosting its 45th annual scholarship fund fashion show Oct. 19 in the Pomaika’i Ballrooms at Dole Cannery, featuring women’s designs from Nui Mono boutique and Calista by Cotton Cargo, and menswear from Rix Island Wear.
The event will begin with boutique sales and a silent auction at 9 a.m. Doors to the ballroom will open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon and the fashion show at 1 p.m.

Hopper gallery features fine carpets, rare rugs
Pegge Hopper Gallery is home to a Carpet Bazaar through Saturday, featuring fine Turkish, Persian and Armenian carpets, rare tribal rugs and handmade textiles, including museum-quality pieces dating to 1850.

Shop for crafts, collectibles at Japanese center’s fair
The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii is hosting a Craft and Collectibles Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in its Teruya Courtyard.
The sale featuring handmade and one-of-a-kind vintage and antique treasures will help support local artists.
Admission is free. Spend $10 in the JCCH gift shop to receive full parking validation.

Models, volunteers sought for runway show at YWCA
First Lady: The Movement is staging a model call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Patty’s Closet at the Town Center of Mililani.
The group of female entrepreneurs is looking for women 5 feet 5 inches or taller with runway experience, as well as volunteers to assist backstage at a fashion show to take place Nov. 14 at the Laniakea YWCA. All must be 18 or older.
Models are requested to bring solid-color nude, black or white heels 3 inches or higher.

CHAI Studio offers class on tie-dyeing scarves
Learn to make your own scarf using indigo dye during a tie-dye workshop this weekend at CHAI Studio at the Diamond Head end of Ward Warehouse.
There will be two workshops running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $20, and all the materials will be provided. Reserve a space by calling 536-4543.

Grab a Candy clutch at Jimmy Choo boutique
To celebrate its new Waikiki store, Jimmy Choo has launched a limited edition of its iconic Candy bag. The $995 acrylic clutch is printed with a stylized vignette of warm sand and swaying palm trees, and can be worn with a chain strap or carried by hand.
The new 1,601-square-foot store at Royal Hawaiian Center will sell a complete assortment of Jimmy Choo women’s and men’s shoe and bag collections, as well as eyewear, small leather goods, soft accessories and fragrance.
The store also will offer a made-to-order shoe service, and there will be a special section dedicated to the Choo 24:7 collection representing the brand’s iconic silhouettes.
American Girl sets up shop at Ala Moana
American Girl, home to the popular doll collections, is in Mall Level 2, Ewa Wing at Ala Moana Center. The temporary specialty boutique is slated to be open through April and features an assortment of the brand’s BeForever, Girl of the Year, My American Girl and Bitty Baby lines, as well as best-selling American Girl books and Dress Like Your Doll clothing for girls.

Ross Dress for Less adds stores on Kauai, Oahu
Ross Dress for Less is expanding with the grand opening of two new stores in Kukui Grove Center, the first on Kauai, and at Oahu’s Kahala Mall, bringing the number of Oahu locations to 12.
The stores will carry brand name department and specialty store merchandise priced at 20 to 60 percent less than other retailers.
Both stores will open at 9 a.m. Friday and will be giving away $1,000 in Ross Dress for Less gift cards. From Friday through Oct. 19, customers may also enter in-store for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree or one of five $100 shopping sprees.
