Sweepstakes gambling machine charges dismissed
A state judge has dismissed the racketeering, gambling and money laundering charges against nine people connected with sweepstakes gambling machines.
The Honolulu prosecutor filed court papers Thursday afternoon seeking the dismissal, in order to refile the charges to correct some flaws in the current indictment.
Circuit Judge Randal K.O. Lee approved the request Thursday.
The dismissal is without prejudice, allowing the prosecutor to refile the charges.
The lawyers representing the nine defendants who were facing 414 charges met with Lee this morning seeking to have the case dismissed with prejudice, which would prevent the prosecutor from refiling the charges.
Lee scheduled a hearing for next Tuesday.
